31.12.17 Past, future and favorit records in 2017

We want to thank you all for your continuous support in 2017 and wish you a happy new year. Thanks for coming to our shows, hanging out with us and buying our music and merch (and beardoil of course 😉 ). Also thanks to all the great bands we had the pleasure of sharing the stage and some beers with. Especially to the Woman is the Earth guys. The 4 days we got to spend with you on the road are some memories we will cherish forever.
2018 will first bring the Ancient Ascent Tour, something we are looking forward to since months. We are excited to share the stage with such great bands and to see you all on the road.
The other thing that will be happening in 2018 is the recording of our next album. We already teased you a bit this last week with a video: The recording process has officially started! We spent the whole 2017 writing this new piece and we are finally finished with crafting these new melodies and lyrics. In my personal life a lot has changed in 2017 – new place to live, new job, new life – and I am very grateful for everything. I think you will be able to hear those changes in our new songs. But don’t be afraid, we have not gone soft yet, there is still some fire left in these old bones ;-). Actually the new material probably belongs to the fastest and most “blasty” stuff Waldgeflüster has ever done. But you will see… Don’t get too excited just yet: Our recording process takes a very long time. Don’t expect the new album to drop any minute. We will keep you updated when we have real news to share.
So once again, thank you very much for everything.

If you are interested, you can find a list of the favorite albums in 2017 of some of us below. As always, we didn’t care if they were released in 2017 – these are the records we listened to most this past year.

Winterherz:
Earth and Pillars – Pillars I: This is probably one of the best BM records ever written. The atmosphere is just perfect. Dark, cold trancedental.

Anagnorisis – Peripeteia: A total suprise for me. A very sad and personal record. The samples are working precectly.

Sumerlands – Sumerlands: I am not a big fan of Heavy Metal, but this record blew my mind. It rocks, it is fun but is also profound, which cannot be said for most Heavy Metal music in my opinion.

Falls of Rauros – Vigilance Perennial: What should I say, Falls did it again. They are not only some of the nicest guys on this planet, they manage again and again to write the most beautiful music. On a sidenote, Ray managed to outparty me when he visited this year. Something that does not happen very often…

Havukruunu – Kelle Surut soi: Perfect Finnish Folk Black Metal.

Bear’s den – Red earth and pouring rain: Pop-folk with an 80ies touch. If you follow my years end list, you know that I also love non-metal music. This is a great record that reveals it’s big moments only after listening to it a couple of times. But once it does, it sticks.

Zachary Lucky – The ballad of loosing you: One of the best Country records I have heard so far. My wife managed to get a hold of the sold out LP, something I have been looking for since I fisrt heard the music. Zachary will also be coming to Germany next year for a tour. If you have some place for Country in your hard, go to those shows!

Ruins of Beverast – Exuvia: Maybe his most intense record. Dark and sinister.

Colter Wall – st.: Once more, Country. I cannot believe that a 20 something year old dude can have a voice like him…

Casper – Lang lebe der Tod: Yes, this one. I love it. After the last record not really being my thing, this one is great again. Love the lyrics and the music.

Ringo – Monocarpic: Probably the weirdest Tape I got me this year. Best description is probably “Banjo-Drone”. Sounds weird but the atmosphere is somehow sad and dark.

Wolves In the Throne Room – Thrice Woven: After some mediocre albums, this one really got me again.

Saiva – Markerna Bortom: When Andreas showed me the demos for this record back in February in his Studio in Lappland I feared that it was too dissonant for me. But after listening to it a couple of times, this is one of the most soothing records I know. Great atmosphere and the vocals are a true masterpiece.

Out of competition: The upcoming Panopticon record… Austin outdid himself. Again. Don’t know how he manage this, but he is getting better and better. This one has an Emperor feeling to it. It’s majestic, it is fast, I love it. And don’t get me started on the second half…

Tom:
Drudkh – Eternal Turn of the Wheel
Harakiri For The Sky – III: Trauma
40 Watt Sun – Wider than the sky
Violet Cold – Anomie
Grift – Syner
Woman Is The Earth – Torch of our final night
Fäulnis – Antikult
Winterfylleth – The Dark Hereafter
Alcest – Kodama
Khemmis – Absolution

Arvagr:
Pallbearer – Sorrow & Extinction
Paradise Lost – Medusa
Fäulnis Antikult
Audn – Farvegir fyrndar
Boysetsfire – The Misery Index
Alcest – Kodama
